Breakfast Birthday Bash

Whitney wanted to invite lots of her friends this year. She has made friends at church, at school, and in the neighborhood and she wanted everyone included. In order to do this in a way that would not break the bank, we came up with a breakfast party.

Because we scheduled the party at 9 am on a Saturday we also included the invitation to come with your PJs on and your best bed head hairstyle. We used our neighborhood clubhouse and I decorated it with smiley faces everywhere the eye could roam. Important to start an early Saturday with the correct decor.
We had every breakfast food we could think of, including Jeremy manning the griddle for fresh pancakes. He rocked it.

We had three tables of kids all munching away. Behind Whitney is a big poster where all her friends could use markers and crayons to draw her a picture or write a birthday wish.

The winner of the "Best Bed Head" award, Tristan from Whitney's class.

By virtue of Whit's birthday falling close to Easter, it is becoming tradition to have an Easter egg hunt. Spencer, Parker, and their friend Jordin, hid all the eggs then the rush came. They are getting much better at this than in years past. I think it took 3 minutes flat.

We played that old game where you wrap up the gift in many layers of paper, then turn on music and pass it until the music goes off and the person holding it unwraps a layer. While preparing this earlier in the week I sat wrapping the gift while I talked to my sister, Megan. After a while I realized I had lost track of the layers but I knew there were many. Turns out there were about 14 layers but rather than getting bored, the kids just got more excited as yet ANOTHER layer appeared!
In the end they unwrapped a big bag of Swedish Fish, (one of Whitney's faves) and all got a handful for the goodie bags.

The rest of the time the kids played on the playground and just had fun on the beautiful morning we were lucky enough to have! I also set up a place to make Froot Loop necklaces and lots of the kids ended up with a variety of lovely, edible jewelry.

Whitney also had some great bed head going on for the morning. She even wore jammies that were mismatched to keep the "crazy" day feel.
She picked out her cake - a tiny round one from the bakery with small cupcakes for the guests. I did have the best intentions of keeping the sugar rush to a minimum in the a.m. hours.
Guest had left with their full tummies and loot. Now Whitney got to dig into the gifts. Her friends treated her generously and she has played with the presents all week. Great birthday? Mission accomplished!
