MOM! Quit Trying to Pet the Lion!

March is a glorious time here in South Texas. The citrus trees blossom, the jasmine blooms, and the bougainvillea blazes in fuchsia that seems a bit unreal in its intensity. I love to walk outside during the dark hours of the day. The smells feel like a warm embrace as the Gulf breezes move through the city.

Our Spring Break kept the promise of March in Texas! Although much relaxation took place this past week we did spend plenty of time outside to soak in the warmth before it becomes oppressive heat.

We took a day (Jer even got to join in the fun) and went to Brownsville TX to the zoo. If you know me well you may know my love affair with zoos. I take my children but they are just a convenient excuse for a grown woman to get excited about elephants.

Here I am talking animatedly with Parker about the tortoises (is that tortii?). I mean really, who would not get excited over this handsome devil!

It just so happened that the day we planned on the zoo fell on St. Patrick's. After a breakfast of Green Eggs and Ham (Parker's idea) we donned all the green clothes we could find and headed to the zoo. Whitney in particular felt very Irish as she was lime green from head to toe (despite her mother's objections that perhaps it did not ALL have to be green.)

A trip to the zoo would never be complete without Parker and Spencer grabbing, laughing, running around, and teasing each other. I think they are often much more fun to watch than the animals. Often, that includes the monkeys.

We snapped this of Spencer as he was jumping from spot to spot on this rock wall. He is a bit like Spiderman and Bruce Lee in one. I swear he can climb walls and he somehow defies gravity with his jumps and spins. Must be the feather-light bird bones.

NOT my best shot but since sharing my love affair with this tropical foliage I felt hypocritical for not including at least one shot of it! The kids look great :)

  4. I'm crying seeing the pictures of the azaleas, then look outside at the four inches of snow that has fallen in the last four hours!
