You're going where?

It's official. The first week of February we accepted a position (still with the FBI) in the small (yes, 2 man) office in Monticello, UT. Six days later our house was on the market and the business of moving underway. It is a business we know well.

After 12 and a 1/2 years we have the opportunity to live close to family, friends, and the mountains. I can admit now how much I have missed the mountains.

Many have asked "Where is Monticello?" Good question since it is such a small town that one may miss seeing it on a map - that is if you have a map detailed enough to include it!

Monticello, UT is situated in the Southeast corner of Utah, close to the Four Corners area (where Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado meet). Monticello is about 50 miles north of the Four Corners and about 50 miles from Moab, UT. Monticello sits at the entrance to the Canyonlands National Park and is close to Arches National Park and Slickrock (famous for mountain biking). Hence, by living in this area we get to see lovely vistas like this:

and this

This area is quintessential rugged Southwest United States. Growing up in Northern Utah I think I had certain impressions (like - who would ever want to live in that desolate place) of this part of the state. Now, after many drives across the plains of Texas and New Mexico, I think that this little corner of the world has an indescribable beauty all it's own.
Monticello boasts a population of about 3,000 people. The closest Target is 212 miles away. I think these facts say it all about the changes we are going to experience. That said, we are excited for the adventure this new chapter will bring. Jer and I feel very confident in this choice and feel that in spite of such a new way of life our family will do very well in this new place.
All of these changes are quite dependent on whether or not we can sell our home here in Corpus Christi. Most of us know the challenges of selling a home right now and we are not immune from them here. We have had many showings in the past two weeks so we are hopeful but cautiously so. You can feel free to add your prayers to ours that this part of the transition will go well. You can see our virtual tour on realtor.com.

  2. That's awsome! (Except the lack of Target part.) I'm so excited that you have a blog. Good luck selling your home. You're in my prayers.

  4. Congrats! I'm jealous of the small town thing. And, it works wonders on the budget when shopping constitutes a "vacation" (212 miles qualifies as a vacation to me). No more just running to the store to grab something quick and then picking up all those cute extras you see that you had no intention of buying.

  5. Hi Koryn! This is Erica (Friden) Hensley. I saw your blog from Ashley's and thought I would take a look. I have to tell you that Adam would be so jealous right now. It is his dream to live in Monticello, Utah. Random, I know...but exciting for you!
